The event kicked off with the workshop "Sweet danger? Sugar and its role in health prevention", led by Frank Vogelgesang from the association Prävention und Gesundheit im Saarland (PuGiS) e.V.. The participants began by taking a close look at their own eating habits. In group work, they reflected on the food they ate and categorised it into healthy and less healthy categories. This was followed by practical implementation: together, the participants prepared a so-called "bowl" - a dish characterised by its balanced combination of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Using the modular principle, they were able to put together individual, nutritious meals that are not only healthy but also suitable for everyday use.
Another highlight of the week was a visit to the Marienhof farm in Gerlfangen, a family-run organic farm run by Karin and Stefan Zenner. Annika Zenner gave the participants a tour of the farm and gave them fascinating insights into organic cycles, sustainable agriculture and animal welfare. The direct contact with food production made the content of the project week tangible and sustainable.
The aim of the project week was to increase the participants' awareness of and interest in healthy eating in the long term through a combination of knowledge transfer, practical experience and new ideas.
"A good basis for health prevention is avoiding unhealthy eating habits. This education model for a healthy diet and the network work with PuGiS are very valuable",
emphasises District Administrator Frank John, Chairman of the AQuiS Supervisory Board.
