Climate protection coordination
A climate protection coordination scheme has been in place in the Saarpfalz district since March 2026. Its aim is to support, link and coordinate the climate protection activities of the local authorities. It is a four-year fixed-term scheme with dedicated staff.
Whilst climate adaptation management deals with the consequences of climate change that are already being felt, climate protection coordination, together with climate protection management, tackles the root causes.
The Climate Protection Coordination Unit acts as a link between the local authorities and the district. Its main tasks are
- strengthening cooperation between local authorities so that measures can be implemented more quickly and - more efficiently.
- the preparation of a district-wide energy and CO₂ balance sheet to set out the path to net-zero emissions
- the strategic integration of climate action to ensure that carbon neutrality can be achieved by 2045
The roles of climate coordination, climate protection management and climate adaptation management are interlinked and are closely coordinated within the department to ensure that measures are planned and implemented in a holistic and cost-effective manner.
This project is funded under Section 4.1.7 of the Local Authority Guidelines as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative.
