Delegation trip

The Saarpfalz district has actively accompanied and supported the municipality of Mandelbachtal in initiating a municipal partnership with the Polish municipality of Markowa in the partner district of Łańcut. The aim of this initiative is to further deepen German-Polish cooperation and bring the existing district partnership to life at municipal level.
As part of a delegation trip to the district of Łańcut organised by the Saarpfalz district, initial talks were successfully held between the municipal representatives. The Saarpfalz district provided technical coordination and support, specifically promoting dialogue between the participants and establishing contact with the Polish partner municipality.
The European Commissioner Dr Violetta Frys expressly welcomes the commitment of the municipality of Mandelbachtal. Municipal partnerships are a central building block of European understanding, as they strengthen the exchange between people and create sustainable relationships at local level.
The shared culture of remembrance is of particular importance here. In both Markowa and Mandelbachtal - including the Gräfinthal Monastery - memorials commemorate the Ulma family and symbolise responsibility, humanity and reconciliation. These places form an important foundation for the partnership-based cooperation.
The connection is complemented by existing school cooperation between institutions in the Saarpfalz district and the district of Łańcut. The Saarpfalz district expressly supports these encounters, as they allow young people to experience the European idea first-hand.
The Saarpfalz district will continue to support the municipality of Mandelbachtal in an advisory capacity in the next steps of establishing the partnership and thus strengthen municipal cooperation within the German-Polish partnership in the long term.
During the impressive meeting at the end of September, which brought people from our district and our partner districts closer together, another partnership was established. The partnership between the St. Ingbert-Mitte and Łańcut scouts was signed as part of the delegation's visit to the Saarpfalz district.
