Exhibition opening
"Vanished without a trace"

The exhibition tells the story of Poles who were forced to perform forced labour in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate during the Second World War - for example in Homburg, Völklingen and Lebach. Numerous forced labourers from Poland, Ukraine and other parts of the former Soviet Union were also deployed in the Saarpfalz district. In Homburg-Beeden, the Reichsbahn maintained a camp in a gymnasium where men, women and even children from the former Soviet Union were housed and forced to work for the Reichsbahn. Many other forced labourers worked in industry, for example in Homburg, Bexbach and St. Ingbert, sometimes under extremely harsh conditions, in ironworks, for the Reichsbahn and in local businesses. Numerous people did not survive this time.
The exhibition also reveals the fates of German people who were severely punished by the Nazi regime for their humane behaviour towards Polish forced labourers.
The exhibition can be seen during the district administration's opening hours until 9 January 2026.
