Heat and UV protection in healthcare facilities
Older people, children and people with certain pre-existing conditions are at a higher risk of health problems caused by heat and UV radiation. It is therefore important that preventative and preparatory heat protection measures are implemented in facilities where these vulnerable groups of people are staying temporarily or permanently.
Independently of standardised national recommendations, recommendations and sample heat protection plans were developed as part of the "ExTrass" project and by the "Aktionsbündnis Hitzeschutz Berlin" (Berlin Heat Protection Action Alliance), which can serve as a guide for individual heat protection precautions in healthcare facilities, taking into account local structures and conditions:
- Recommendations for care facilities on how to deal with heatwaves (BMBF project ExTrass at the University of Potsdam)
- Sample heat protection plans from the "Aktionsbündnis Hitzeschutz Berlin" for hospitals, surgeries, inpatient and outpatient care
- Information from the Federal Ministry of Health on heat protection for care facilities.
