Dear citizens,

There’s been no shortage of sunshine and warmth this summer – quite the opposite, in fact: the persistent heat has had us firmly in its grip since mid-June. I hope you’ve managed to get through this period well so far. Perhaps you’ve already been on holiday and have been able to enjoy the first few weeks of the summer break.

However, to relax and discover new things, it isn’t always necessary to travel far afield. Sometimes the best things are right on your doorstep: the Bliessteig, “Germany’s most beautiful long-distance hiking trail 2025”, runs right through our district. Exploring the beauty of our region in your walking boots is now even easier with the Saarpfalz-Touristik hiking pass: the pass includes a free biosphere ticket for buses and trains, allowing you to make a relaxed return journey from your stage destinations using public transport.

But it’s not just walking enthusiasts who get their money’s worth in our district during the summer months. The programme at the Bliesbruck-Reinheim European Cultural Park invites young and old alike to get involved: Until 30 August, the Cultural Park’s creative workshops offer the chance to immerse yourself interactively in the world of the Celts and Romans. You can try your hand at pottery and baking, collect plants and weave baskets – exciting activities for the whole family. The Cultural Park is also organising a holiday camp again this year – from 3 to 7 August. Here too, a varied programme of plant printing, bread on a stick, archery, giant soap bubbles, felting and much more awaits the young participants.

If, come September, you fancy taking another mental holiday, I’d also recommend the ‘Italian’ educational holiday course run by our local adult education centre. It’s a lovely way to round off the holiday season, whilst also whetting your appetite for your next trip to Italy.

Until then, I hope you have a lovely summer.

Yours,
District Administrator Frank John
