The Saarpfalz District Youth Fire Brigade organised a special event dedicated to inclusion on Saturday 5 September at the Neue Haus Sonne in Walsheim. More than 70 members of youth fire brigades from across the Saarpfalz district were present, together with their supervisors. They were joined by over 100 residents of various age groups, as well as their carers.
Right from the start, the focus was on shared experiences. At a vehicle display, participants were able to get up close to the fire engines. There was also plenty to discover and try out at various stations: participants could feel objects, learn about fire-fighting equipment and, of course, have a go at one or two stations centred on the theme of water.
It soon became clear that the fire service is not just about emergency response and providing assistance, but also about community, socialising and solidarity. During the various activities, the young people and the residents of Neue Haus Sonne got to talk to one another, tried things out together and clearly enjoyed their shared experiences immensely.
“We, the youth fire brigades in the Saarpfalz district, are committed to inclusion, to shared moments and to events in which everyone can take part and feel included. This day is a fine example of exactly that,” said Dirk Sandmayer, representative for the Saarpfalz district youth fire brigade.
Refreshments were also well catered for. At lunchtime, the youth fire brigade leaders, together with the district youth representatives, took charge of the barbecue and provided a meal for everyone. Over food and conversation, the discussions were taken further and the day’s activities continued in a convivial atmosphere.
The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration with the district youth welfare office and the financial support of District Administrator Frank John. This made it possible to create a special day that will remain in the memories of everyone involved.
Through events such as this, the youth fire brigades in the Saarpfalz district aim to send a clear message: inclusion means being active together, fostering connections and sharing wonderful moments with one another. The event in Walsheim impressively demonstrated just how much joy can be created when people come together, regardless of their individual circumstances.
