“The spread of smoke from the fires in Belgium and the neighbouring federal states has eased significantly overnight. The alert has therefore been lifted for the whole country.”
Throughout the day, there may also be isolated instances of smoke being carried by the wind into the Saarland, particularly in the northern and eastern parts of the region. It cannot therefore be ruled out that further public information or warnings may be issued. The safety advice will continue to apply in areas where such smoke is detected.
In that case, the following applies:
Close the windows and doors.
Vulnerable groups in particular, as well as people with respiratory conditions, should currently stay indoors as much as possible. This applies above all to people with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, as well as those who are particularly sensitive to smoke and air pollutants. In addition, people should currently avoid strenuous physical exertion and intense outdoor activities.
The public is therefore once again urged to exercise personal responsibility and rely on their own judgement. The intensity of smoke and the smell of burning may vary depending on the local situation. The general recommendations on how to behave should therefore always be adapted to the specific situation on the ground and to one’s own perception.
"If there are signs of an acute fire or if you have any concerns that this might be the case, dial the emergency number 112 immediately."
