Allies in Poland
Most of the Polish partner counties are located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship (Polish: województwo podkarpackie). The Podkarpackie Vo ivodeship, with its capital Rzeszów, is located in south-east Poland on the border with Ukraine and Slovakia and has a population of around 2.1 million. It has maintained an official partnership with Saarland since 2009.

Its foundation dates back to the Polish administrative reform in 1999, when the smaller voivodeships of Rzesów, Przemyśl and parts of the Krosno voivodeship were merged.

The Podkarpackie voivodeship is divided into four independent towns and 21 districts, four of which are officially twinned with the Saarpfalz district: the district of Przemyśl, the
district of Łańcut, the district of Bieszczady and the district of Lubaczów.
