Service description
The district police authority is responsible for processing applications for
- Change of first name
- Change of surname
- Name changes are made in accordance with the Name Change Act
A name may only be changed if an important reason justifies the name change.
Example:
Surnames that sound offensive or ridiculous or may give rise to frivolous or inappropriate puns regularly justify a name change. When examining the offensiveness or ridiculousness of a surname, the objective standard of general experience must be applied. Special reasons, such as those relating to the person, profession or environment of the applicant, must be taken into account.

Applications can be obtained from the town halls of the respective municipality of residence.
