Textbook and media lending
Service description
Dear parents,
Dear pupils,From the 2026/27 academic year, the schoolbook and media lending service will be replaced by the State-wide Systematic Media Lending Service (LSMS).
This ensures that the provision of teaching and learning materials is organised in a standardised manner and reliably guaranteed by the Saarpfalz District as the school authority.
This includes both printed/analogue and digital textbooks (including workbooks and reading materials), as well as educational software and mobile devices. Your child will therefore receive all the teaching and learning materials required for lessons through the school.
Key changes at a glance:
Compulsory attendance
From the 2026/27 school year onwards, participation in the LSMS will be compulsory for all pupils if the school has joined the State-wide Systematic Media Lending Scheme. Pupils will then be required to accept and use the teaching and learning materials provided under the LSMS.
The use of personal mobile devices or privately purchased licences in the classroom is strictly prohibited for data protection and child protection reasons.
Registration
As attendance is compulsory, it is no longer necessary to register separately or to complete a registration form for the schoolbook lending scheme or LSMS. Pupils are automatically registered for the media lending service.
fee
A standard fee of €160 is charged at all secondary schools throughout the Saarland.
Payment details:
As a parent or guardian, or as a student of legal age, you will receive a fee notice for the coming school year, which will set out the payment arrangements.
Exemption from rental charges
Along with the fee notice, you will also receive information about financial relief and how to apply for additional support when claiming benefits from the Jobcentre.
If you have any further questions regarding exemption from paying the loan fee, please contact Department 31, Social Affairs, on 06841 104 7240, or your local Jobcentre.
