Addiction prevention
Tobacco consumption, alcohol and drug abuse and addiction, gambling and online addiction as well as other behavioural addictions and addiction to illegal drugs are widespread in our society. The aim of addiction prevention is to prevent addiction, reduce damage to health or prevent relapse.
The public health department carries out addiction prevention measures in cooperation with the network partners of the "Community-based addiction prevention" working group in the living environments of children, young people and adults. As part of recurring action days, topics such as "Gambling addiction" and "Responsible use of alcohol" are addressed.

Addiction counselling
The boundaries between enjoyment, abuse and dependence on addictive substances such as alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs are fluid.
In many cases, it is not only those affected who suffer from the effects of abusive or addictive consumption, but also their relatives. At the public health department, those affected and their relatives will find competent contacts who can provide advice, information and refer them to appropriate further help or treatment programmes. We are also available to provide information and advice on addictive behaviours such as pathological gambling, internet use or eating disorders.
Addiction prevention working group
The public health department is the central coordination centre for "community-based addiction prevention" and moderates the working group of the same name. The working group brings together the stakeholders involved in addiction prevention in the Saarpfalz district.
Permanent members are employees of the Addiction Prevention Centre of the Workers' Welfare Association, the Caritas Centre Saarpfalz, the Department of Social Security, the Youth Welfare Office and the Health Department. Other members are also involved in specific topics and projects.
A high level of effectiveness and efficiency of preventative measures is achieved through co-operation and networking between institutions. The working group wants to make an active contribution to this further development.
It has set itself the goal of bringing together institutions and individuals working in the field of prevention, promoting the exchange of information on existing projects and developing and implementing new activities. The working group addresses current issues and initiates corresponding specialist events and projects.
