Assisted living for the mentally ill and disabled
Service description
Assisted living offers mentally disabled people the opportunity to receive help in overcoming their mental health problems from qualified support staff in shared flats or in individual accommodation.
The support is geared towards the individual's needs and helps them to cope with everyday life independently, to participate in life in the community and to initiate and coordinate any further assistance that may be required.
The aim is to promote the independence of assisted living users, to help them to help themselves, but also to support them in crisis situations.
Assisted living can be provided regardless of whether the person in need of assistance lives in their own home, in a shared flat or in a residential home. The latter is characterised by a high level of day-structuring services and the constant presence or availability of care staff and is suitable for people with intensive care needs.
As part of the implementation of the Federal Participation Act (BTHG), transitions between different forms of intensive care have become more flexible in recent years. The aim is to focus on the respective life situations and needs of those in need of assistance.
The Saarpfalz district does not maintain its own assisted living services for the mentally ill and disabled. However, it works closely with the regional providers of these services, provides information in this regard and supports those seeking help in making contact with assisted living.
