Important legislative changes with effect from 1 July 2026
On 1 July 2026, various legislative changes came into force under the 13th Amendment Act to Book II of the Social Code (SGB II). The current ‘Bürgergeld’ will in future be known as ‘Grundsicherungsgeld’. The amount of the monthly benefits will not change as a result of the name change.
Please note: During a transitional period, the term ‘Bürgergeld’ will still be used in application forms, notification letters and other correspondence. These documents will be gradually updated to reflect the new legal situation.
