Mowing with a scythe is one of the oldest cultural techniques of mankind and has a very long tradition. But how do you handle a scythe, how do you denge and mow correctly? Course leader Gerhard Niklas provides a wealth of tips, tricks and assistance on how to use the scythe correctly and mow easily, and shows how to mow your meadow easily and inexpensively while sparing your environment the noise and smell of petrol while "meditatively" scything. Participants can practise scything and mowing with their own equipment under supervision.
Almost all types of fruit must be grafted if their varietal characteristics, e.g. flavour and ripening time, are to be retained unchanged. This also applies to many ornamental shrubs. One of the possibilities for true-to-type propagation is the technique of grafting, which has been known since ancient times. There are complicated but also easy-to-learn grafting methods that can be carried out at home. Fruit tree expert Harry Lavall shows in theory and practice how fruit trees and ornamental shrubs can be grafted. Participants will carry out the grafting themselves on roses, which can be purchased on site; please bring suitable pruning knives.
The number of participants in the courses is limited. Registration is required by 16 June at the latest (scything and denesing) and by 23 June at the latest (self-grafting woody plants) at the Saarpfalz-Kreis by telephone on weekdays during business hours on (06841) 104-7228 or at any time by email to [email protected]. There you will find further information (including directions) on what the Cultural Landscape Centre has to offer. Due to the limited number of parking spaces available at the centre, please use car parks in the surrounding area or form car pools.
