Many people are still unaware that Wikipedia can not only be read by everyone, but also edited by everyone. The Saarpfalz District Women’s Office is offering an introduction to how this works on Saturday 21 November from 10 am to 3 pm at its premises at Scheffelplatz 1 in Homburg.
In the workshop, the speaker, Dr Maja Linthe, will give an introduction to the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, outline the different types of Wikipedia pages and show participants how to edit article pages. She will then use examples from a number of women’s biographies – which were compiled as part of the LEADER project ‘Frauenspuren’ in the Saarpfalz district and for which Wikipedia articles already exist – to demonstrate how these can be developed and expanded. Workshop participants will then be able to add specific information from reliable sources to the article page themselves and will be supported by the speaker as they take their first steps on Wikipedia.
Participants will need a laptop to edit the article pages and should have a basic understanding of how to create digital texts. Participation is free of charge; please register in advance. For further information and to register, please contact the Saarpfalz District Women’s Office, Scheffelplatz 1, Homburg, Tel. (06841) 104-7138, email: [email protected].
