Following in Women’s Footsteps – Guided Biosphere Safari on 12 September

Rather than travelling through the savannahs of Africa, this safari takes you to exciting destinations within the district’s boundaries. Participants will be accompanied by nature and landscape guide Eva Hubert and project coordinator Helen Tepper.

The tour starts at 10 am in St. Ingbert at the bus stop on Saarbrücker Straße near the Alte Schmelz. This is also the first stop, before the tour continues later in the day to the Niederwürzbach Pond and on to Homburg’s Schlossberg. The various stops will explore the lives of women in industrial history, as well as noblewomen, Jewish life and the opportunities available to women in the Middle Ages. The safari ends at around 5 pm at St. Ingbert railway station, a 15-minute walk from the starting point.

During the tour, you’ll travel from stop to stop in a climate-friendly and comfortable manner on modern, well-organised public transport buses and trains. However, those interested should be reasonably fit, as short walks of around 4 to 7 km are also planned.

A light lunch will be served at the Café GenussWerkstatt in Homburg during the safari. However, this is not a substitute for a full meal. You should therefore bring a packed lunch with a small snack and drinks, as well as sturdy footwear and, depending on the weather, sun protection and insect repellent.

Participation is free of charge. However, places are limited, so you must register by 6 September. For further information and to register, please contact the Saarpfalz District Women’s Office, Scheffelplatz 1, Homburg, Tel. (06841) 104-7138, email: [email protected].
