How are exciting short films, podcasts and social media clips created? And how can topics relating to nature and biodiversity be communicated creatively using modern media? Young people will find the answers to these questions at the five-day ‘GreenCut-JUMP’ media workshop, which takes place from 5 to 9 October in the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve.
This free programme, run by the ‘Sustainable Youth Work in the Saarpfalz District’ Coordination Centre/Junge Biosphäre, is aimed at teenagers and young adults aged between 14 and 27. During the workshop, the young people learn how professional media productions work: the programme includes, amongst other things, how to use film equipment and the basics of media design. Together, the participants develop their own scripts, plan their segments and then head out into nature with a camera and microphone. They are accompanied by biosphere ranger Patric Heintz and mushroom expert Susanne Ratering. The two specialists highlight the unique features of the biosphere reserve.
“Young people are not only the generation that will shape our future – they also have their very own perspective on the world and on the issues that affect us all. When they bring these perspectives to life through modern media, exciting stories emerge that can reach other people. It is precisely these kinds of creative opportunities that we want to create with the ‘Young Biosphere’,” explains District Administrator Frank John.
It’s not just about filming: the young people will learn how to create exciting video and audio recordings, conduct interviews, present, and edit videos and podcasts. The workshop will take place from 5 to 9 October, from 10 am to 4 pm each day. On Monday and Tuesday, the group will head to Kirkel, and from Wednesday to Friday they will continue on to Gersheim. As well as media production, the programme includes exploring together, teamwork, an environmental initiative and, of course, plenty of fun. Among other things, a group barbecue is planned at the Spohns Haus ecological school camp.
Participation is free of charge thanks to the support of the Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz Foundation for Culture and the Environment. The GreenCut-JUMP project is run by the Gespa e. V. association and is funded under the federal ‘Biodiversity’ programme. The project is supported, amongst others, by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, the Heinz Sielmann Foundation and BINGO! – The Environmental Lottery.
