At the ‘Rendezvous with Honeybees’ in the gardens of Haus Lochfeld on Sunday 5 July, from 3 pm, you can get an up-close look inside beehives. The ‘Rendezvous’ takes place in the gardens right next to the bees and is ideal for the whole family. The entry fee is six euros per person, and three euros for children up to the age of 14. Freshly extracted honey will be available to buy on site.
The honeybee still presents scientists with many a mystery for which they have yet to find a solution. Beekeepers have marvellous stories to tell about their ‘craft’. There are many fairy tales and stories about honeybees, their colony and life deep inside the darkness of the hive; after all, the ‘private lives’ of honeybees usually remain hidden from us humans. Normally, we don’t really know exactly what they get up to, at least not when they’re at home. As soon as beekeeper Hans-Werner Krick opens the hive, you’ll come face to face with worker bees, drones and the queen; you’ll see pollen and nectar gatherers at work and, with a bit of luck, you might even watch the queen laying eggs. Along the way, Hans-Werner Krick shares and demonstrates many fascinating details from the world of honeybees.
The ‘Rendezvous with Honeybees’ is also ideal for children and young people. Registration is required by 2 July at the latest with the Saarpfalz District Office, either by telephone on weekdays during office hours on (06841) 104 7228 or by email to [email protected]. Due to limited parking at the venue, please use nearby car parks or arrange to share a lift.
