The Saarpfalz district is once again inviting young people to actively discover and help shape the biosphere this year. As the "Young Biosphere", the "Sustainable Youth Work" coordination centre presents a varied programme with practical, creative and nature-related activities.
The event kicks off on 19 May with the production of biosphere herbal syrup in Blieskastel, where participants will get to know and process local herbs. The tasting will take place on 3 June in Gersheim as part of the Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz lecture series.
In summer, a wilderness weekend for families (children aged 6 and over) will take place from 20 to 21 June at the Naturfreundehaus Kirkel campsite. Together with wilderness educator Christian Kirsch, participants will experience nature up close and acquire practical outdoor skills.
A special highlight is the clean-up canoe tour on the Blies on 21 August in cooperation with Bliesgau-Aventura. Here, young people combine nature experience and environmental protection by actively helping to clean up the river.
In autumn, the focus will be on creativity: the "Greencut JUMP" film project will take place from 5 to 10 October. Together with media experts, participants will produce short nature films and podcasts at various locations in the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve. The project is supported by several biosphere stakeholders, including biosphere ranger Patric Heintz.
District Administrator Frank John emphasises the importance of the initiative: "The Young Biosphere impressively demonstrates how sustainable development can inspire young people. The events combine an experience of nature, environmental awareness and creativity in an exemplary way and at the same time strengthen commitment to our region."
The programmes are aimed at young people and are free of charge thanks to funding from Saarland-Sporttoto GmbH, the Culture and Environment Foundation of Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz and the Rotary Clubs of Homburg-Zweibrücken and Homburg-Saarpfalz.
