Interested kindergarten groups were able to fortify themselves with healthy and sugar-free waffles after taking part in free hearing and eye tests as well as an exercise course. A paediatrician offered alternatives to mobile phone use. The dental service also demonstrated how to brush teeth correctly using an oversized model of teeth and talked to the children.
A special highlight in the afternoon were lectures on the topics of mindfulness, exercise in the increasing heat and an interactive lecture on infectious diseases in childhood.
The crowning finale was a reading with the Berlin author and travelling reader Matthias Gerschwitz. With his book and programme "Endlich mal was Positives", he is doing important educational and preventative work on the subject of HIV. He has been honoured with various awards for this work. Matthias Gerschwitz was diagnosed with the immunodeficiency disease HIV in 1994 and published a book about how he dealt with it in 2009. The book was published in a new edition in 2018. His reading was followed by a lively discussion.
"The nationwide day of action is a welcome opportunity for us to show citizens the wide range of tasks performed by the public health department. The advice and information on offer, which was presented creatively and vividly by the employees, represented a cross-section of the activities from the individual areas. We would like to continue to use this day in the future to draw attention to the support services on offer," emphasised District Administrator Frank John.
