The Saarpfalz district is a certified "Wanderbares Deutschland" quality region. Employees in the FÖJ support the team in tourism route management, are out and about in the district with the service e-bike and independently carry out route inspections, help with the planning and signposting of tourist cycle routes. They also keep an eye on the infrastructure of the premium hiking trails and cross-border cycle paths.
For all those who already have a "green thumb" or would like to develop one, the topics at the "Haus Lochfeld" cultural landscape centre in Wittersheim are a special experience. The following tasks are available in the kitchen garden and orchard: Assistance with sowing, care and harvesting in the herb and cottage garden, help with fruit harvesting and processing in autumn, maintaining valuable habitats and planting old fruit tree varieties. We also organise excursions and work with school classes.
Another area is the development of marketing measures for environmentally friendly mobility in close cooperation with Saarpfalz-Touristik and the public transport department of the district administration. This includes activities such as the annual "city cycling" as well as the inspection of bus stops to optimise bus services.
Analysing data with geographic information systems and evaluating aerial images are among the indoor office tasks where you can learn interesting things about spatial data, maps and graphics.
The Saarpfalz district expressly offers scope for the realisation of own projects and ideas, so that the FÖJ can be optimally used for personal orientation. The application requirements are fulfilment of compulsory full-time schooling and age between 16 and 26 years. A class B driving licence is desirable. Seminar days are compulsory during the FÖJ. The Saarpfalz district pays a monthly allowance, social insurance, a ticket to Germany and work clothes.
