The new Bliesgau Pathfinder app is here, offering locals and visitors alike an innovative way to explore the Bliesgau biosphere reserve and the Saarpfalz district on their own. The app offers far more than just classic hiking routes: it impressively combines nature experiences, cultural highlights and sustainable mobility.
A key feature of the app is the direct connection to local public transport with real-time journey data. When planning their hikes, users can also see the most direct route to get there by public transport. This makes it easy to leave the car at home - in the spirit of environmentally friendly and resource-saving tourism. Return connections can also be planned directly in the app, which makes spontaneous tours easier and provides planning security.
To promote the app, the Sustainable Mobility Unit and Saarpfalz-Touristik are currently running a large-scale advertising campaign: large billboards on busy roads and highly visible posters at bus stops throughout the region draw attention to the new digital service. Fittingly: Anyone waiting for the bus at a bus stop may discover a suitable hiking route nearby - a seamless combination of mobility and nature experience.
In addition to the large-scale posters, there will also be A2 posters on all buses within the Saarpfalz district as well as a meaningful social media and website advertising campaign. There will also be sustainable merchandise for the Bliessteig, which was recognised as a "European Leading Quality Trail" in 2025. As a certified long-distance hiking trail, the Bliessteig is an outstanding example in the app of how the hiking experience can work together with public transport.
The app provides a comprehensive overview of the hiking offers in the Saarpfalz district and the Bliesgau biosphere, which has now also been able to boast the "Quality Region Wanderbares Deutschland" award since the beginning of September, and invites you to go on a sustainable and environmentally friendly discovery tour.
"With the Bliesgau Pathfinder app, we are creating an innovative service that combines modern technology, sustainable mobility and the beauty of our home region with all its multifaceted hiking trails and special features along the way," says District Administrator Frank John. "The link with local transport in particular makes it easy to travel around our region in a climate-friendly way while still being flexible and individual."
The app is now available to download free of charge from the App Store and Google Play under the name "Bliesgau Pfadfinder"
