Once again this year, the district administration will not be sending Christmas cards by post. Instead, it is supporting the work of Space Lama e. V., an organisation that campaigns worldwide against the sexual exploitation and abuse of children and young people - primarily together with the PREDA Foundation in the Philippines. A further donation was made to the Ronald McDonald House, a place of retreat and respite from everyday hospital life for families whose children are being treated at the University Clinic for Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. District Administrator Frank John was delighted to welcome Johanna Kapp, an active member of Space Lama e. V., and the manager of the Ronald McDonald House, Tanja Meiser, to the district administration office to hand over 500 euros each.
"Our founding date was exactly 20 years ago in December and we have been able to accommodate around 5,000 families since the beginning. Now our centre is full again. In principle, we are a contact point for all hospital departments. Without the valuable support of our volunteer team of 23 women and men, however, many things would not be possible," reported Tanja Meiser.
Until now, District Administrator Frank John was less familiar with the non-profit organisation Space Lama e. V., which was founded in Homburg in 2020 and is now represented by several local groups throughout Germany, than with the Ronald McDonald House. "We started with a small number of members and now have 242. Of course, we want to grow even bigger so that we don't stop at the 92 children that the association has been able to save locally with the help of various organisations," said Johanna Kapp, outlining the association's activities and assuring them: "Every cent that is donated goes towards our association's work for the benefit of affected children and young people."
District Administrator Frank John was impressed by the presentation: "It is very easy to understand how both institutions focus on their topics in their commitment to others and show us that we can all help to do good in the world and give hope. I am therefore delighted to be able to present a donation to the Ronald McDonald House and the non-profit organisation Space Lama e. V. on behalf of the Saarpfalz district," emphasised the District Administrator, thanking Tanja Meiser and Johanna Kapp for their commitment.
