The Saarpfalz District Women's Office has been running its mentoring programme for over 20 years with great success. A new course starts in February and there are still a few places available.
Mentoring offers comprehensive support for women who are planning a career advancement or reorientation, who want to return to work after a family phase or who want to start a business. The ten-month process, which can be carried out on a part-time basis, includes seminars on topics such as goal setting, identifying personal strengths and values as well as change and time management. Each participant is also assigned a mentor, i.e. a person with management experience, who is determined according to their personal goals and who supports them individually in their professional or personal development during this time.
In addition to the exchange of experiences between mentor and mentee, the programme includes professional presentations and networking events as well as intensive group work. Mentoring has also been used for years as an effective personnel development tool and is also promoted by some employers as a further training measure. During the mentoring programme, the participants focus intensively on their wishes and abilities, expand their social and communication skills and create their own networks, which make it easier for them to progress in their careers. Well over 250 women from all over Saarland and the neighbouring Palatinate region have taken advantage of the programme so far and have generally been able to improve their situation at work and in their private lives in the long term. It has never been so easy to turn good intentions into reality!
