The coordination centre for "Sustainable youth work in the Saarpfalz district / Young Biosphere" organised a wilderness workshop for the first time this summer. A total of six children and young people took part on the property of "Frau Limonadenbaum" in St. Ingbert.
Experience nature, expand your knowledge and be creative together: At this wilderness workshop, participants spent a day immersed in the world of wilderness education. This special experience was supported by a grant from Saartoto - meaning the workshop was free of charge for all participants.
Under the expert guidance of wilderness educator Thomas Stalter, the participants built their own bows and arrows and then practised shooting safely in open terrain. In addition to the practical introduction to archery, Stalter imparted valuable knowledge about survival in the wilderness - from the art of making tear-resistant ropes from nettle fibres to whistling with acorn hats and recognising edible plants.
Creative elements were not neglected either: fabric bags were customised with collected leaves - a lasting reminder of a special day. The workshop was rounded off with a delicious vegetarian quiche from Café Saisonal. As a wild extra, the group prepared crispy nettle crisps - surprisingly tasty and healthy.
District Administrator Frank John was enthusiastic about the commitment and the idea behind the workshop:
" Such projects show how much potential there is in our region - not only in terms of the landscape, but also in terms of educational work. Hands-on nature education is an important building block for a sustainable future."
