Ukraine aid
Aid convoys to Ukraine
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine on 24 February 2022, the Saarpfalz district has been committed to developing municipal aid measures for the suffering Ukrainian population, particularly with regard to post-war reconstruction.
In close coordination with the Polish and Ukrainian partner groups and with the support of Dr. Theiss Naturwaren, aid shipments of food, hygiene articles, medical supplies, technical equipment, etc. are organised on an ongoing basis to the affected areas in line with local needs.

Holiday camps for Ukrainian children and young people
In November 2023, Ukrainian children and young people, mainly war orphans and children from families severely affected by the war, were taken in for a fortnight for the third time in a row as part of a holiday camp in the Saarpfalz district. In cooperation with the Lviv district, the district youth welfare office and the team from Spohns Haus in Gersheim, who are responsible for the successful practical organisation and implementation of the camps, the Saarpfalz district enables the children, some of whom are severely traumatised, to escape the alarm sirens and the suffering they and their families are experiencing, at least for a few days, and to spend a carefree time with a varied programme of sporting and artistic activities, city and museum visits. The carers, who are there for the children around the clock, also provide them with psychological support. In a protected environment, they are given space to come to terms with the events of the war and talk about their pain.
