Subsidy management
Through its active European work, the Saarpfalz district has the opportunity to channel funding into the region to strengthen rural areas and regional infrastructure within the scope of its competences. Even though all partnership relationships and all cross-border activities are primarily financed by the district's own resources and existing financing options, the availability of funding from the EU and other institutions is an important prerequisite for intermunicipal cooperation. The areas of funding acquisition and funding management are therefore also an essential part of the staff unit's remit. In addition to acquiring third-party funding and grants for its own partnership projects, it advises the municipalities belonging to the district in particular, as well as other administrative organisations and civil society players in this area.
In addition, the Saarpfalz district supports initiatives in the school and education sector, in associations, in the field of action of small and medium-sized enterprises, but also in the tourism and cultural sector with a focus on sustainability, the environment and energy, youth and remembrance work as well as peace-building. Pioneering projects include, for example, the tri-national summer camps at the Spohns Haus ecological school hostel in Gersheim, which have been organised for young people from Germany, Poland and Ukraine since 2007, and international excavation projects in Homburg and the surrounding area.
The Saarpfalz district is connected to the Saarland state government's new funding information system(nFMI), which enables all Saarland funding programmes to be processed digitally. The Europe Unit is the central point of contact for all departments of the district administration that apply for funding via the nFMI.
