Book lending during the summer holidays
Dates from 4 August 2026
To ensure that pupils can start the new school year with their textbooks straight away, the district administration is, as it does every year, organising special collection sessions at schools during the school holidays. On these days, parents can conveniently collect the book packs and clarify any queries on the spot.
When borrowing items, parents must prove their identity by presenting their identity card; authorised adults must also provide a letter of authorisation and a copy of the legal guardian’s identity card.
Anyone who has so far failed to pay the loan fee, submit their grant notification or apply to the Jobcentre for exemption from the loan fee should do so immediately so that the new school year can get off to a successful start with the new books.
The book parcels should be checked for completeness and condition immediately upon collection, as complaints made at a later date may not be accepted.
Pupils who, together with their parents, are unable to attend on the holiday dates mentioned will receive the books during school hours in the first week of term.
In addition to printed school textbooks and workbooks, the Saarland-wide Systematic Media Lending Scheme (‘LSMS’) also makes digital book licences, educational software and the necessary mobile devices, including accessories, available on loan.
Loan tablets will be issued to new pupils on a separate day during school hours. Any digital textbooks that have been loaned out will be activated on the loan tablets via the Online-Schule Saarland (‘OSS’)
