Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve

Young people discover nature

The Saarpfalz district's "Sustainable Youth Work" coordination centre is once again inviting young people aged between 14 and 25 to take part in exciting workshops and nature experiences at the "Young Biosphere" in the second half of 2025. Exploring nature and gaining new experiences is particularly fun in the upcoming summer. Thanks to the support of Saartoto and the Culture and Environment Foundation of Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz, participants can look forward to a varied summer programme focusing on mental health, wilderness adventures and environmental engagement.

"The events organised by the coordination centre are a great opportunity for young people to experience nature, develop themselves and experience community. We would like to encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity and actively participate in the summer programme," emphasises District Administrator Frank John.

The workshop "Thriving despite turbulent times" will kick off on 27 June at the VHS Blieskastel. From 4 to 7.30 pm, young people will learn how they can still look positively to the future despite the climate crisis, threatened democracies and wars around the world. With the support of happiness therapist Heike Weber, participants will explore positive psychology and create a personal happiness collage from upcycling materials.

On 29 June, a wilderness workshop with experienced wilderness educator Thomas Stalter will take place in St. Ingbert from 11 am to 3 pm. In addition to building your own bow and an introduction to safe archery, the programme also includes an excursion into wild herbology with creative pocket printing.

"On the world field, get set, go!" is the motto on 27 August and 24 September in Wolfersheim. During seasonal gardening work on the Bliesgau World Field, young people not only learn about the sustainable use of food, but also prepare tasty snacks from the harvest. The Weltacker events take place from 4 to 7 pm.

A real highlight is the canoe clean-up on the Blies on 29 August. Together with Bliesgau Aventura, the young people paddle through nature from 4 p.m. to around 8 p.m., clearing the Blies of rubbish and setting an example for environmental protection. Experience in canoeing and the "Freischwimmer" swimming badge are required to take part.

The programme is rounded off with an alpaca hike on 5 September from 4 to 7 pm. After a guided tour of the Erzentaler Hof farm in Gersheim and feeding the animals, you will join the alpacas on a relaxed hike through the Bliesgau - including a picnic.

"We have put together a great, colourful summer programme at the "Young Biosphere", with something for every interest," explains coordinator Carmen John. "However, places are limited. So it's worth being quick and registering early!"
