At the end of last year, a good 40 vocational students met with District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo at the BBZ St. Ingbert, Willi-Graf-Schule, as part of the "Landrat macht Schule" programme. Headmistress Nicole Luckas and her deputy Markus Wenzel warmly welcomed the district administrator. The presentation of the new image film at the beginning of the quite unusual school lesson was very well received, which was certainly not only due to the fact that it shows a bird's eye view of the BBZ St. Ingbert, exemplifying the school authority's climate protection measures through the installation of solar systems on school roofs. After providing information about his professional career and not concealing the fact that he will soon be retiring, the district administrator drew the pupils' attention to topics such as democracy and peace promotion. The questions from the group then also centred on job hunting, the potential and future of various professions in the trades, the care professions and fair pay.
"People used to talk about an employers' market, but today we talk about an employees' market. This means that companies and public authorities have to work much harder to find qualified staff in the first place or to find enough qualified staff. Young people bring their own ideas of work-life balance to the workplace. A few months ago, I visited a medium-sized company that offers - and has to offer - its employees no fewer than 70 different working time models. We can no longer close our eyes to these changes. And for every job well done, there must of course be a decent income. Successful school preparation is essential for a successful, fulfilling career and working life, for which I am very grateful to the schools run by the Saarpfalz district. I would also like to thank the members of the district council for providing the necessary funds; these are valuable investments in the future," summarised the district administrator. At the end, he thanked the attentive pupils, who were accompanied this morning by Sabine Remmlinger, Head of the Transition System and Vocational School 1 Department, and the two teachers Katharina Wurz and Monika Bauer, for the entertaining exchange.
