The German-American Institute Saarland invites you to a panel discussion at the Christian von Mannlich-Gymnasium on 9 October.
The closer the USA gets to its elections - presidential, House of Representatives, Senate, and a whole series of subordinate elections - the more fanatical, obsessive, racist and poisonous the disputes become.
The actually important social issues such as abortion, the economy, inflation, immigration - legal and illegal, voting rights, vote counting etc. disappear under the mutual accusations, and a focussed political discussion is almost no longer possible. The German-American Institute (DAI) Saarland and the Christian von Mannlich-Gymnasium, in cooperation with the Kreisvolkshochschule and the Union-Stiftung, invite you to a panel discussion with DAI Director Dr Bruno von Lutz and Dominik Holl, Deputy Managing Director of the Union-Stiftung, Saarbrücken, in the auditorium (entrance Hiltebrandtstraße) of the Gymnasium. Verena Sierra from Saarländischer Rundfunk will moderate the event. The event starts at 7 pm. It will also be a conversation about the political and cultural divide, about the possibilities of bringing the nation together, about the possible outcome of the election and about the right to vote itself. Questions from the audience are expressly encouraged. The free event is funded by the Federal Foreign Office, the US Embassy and Saartoto.
