New vocational orientation programme for new immigrants

The Saarpfalz-Kreis Job Centre's job application and advice centre has developed a special offer for new immigrants on career orientation. The aim of this three-day event is to develop realistic career aspirations with people from Ukraine in particular and to support them in successfully entering the German labour market.

This measure not only offers basic knowledge about working life, but also provides practical tips for the application process and necessary information about the German labour market.

The customers receive support throughout the programme from an employee of the job centre, who understands the situation and needs of the participants particularly well due to her own migration background and training as a supervisor and coach. Intensive dialogue during the group work in the first two days is essential. The participants share their experiences and discuss their individual career aspirations in Germany. Finally, they gain insights into the use of online portals and learn how to present themselves successfully on the German labour market.

On the third day, individual coaching takes place with the aim of developing realistic career prospects for each participant. The counsellor helps to clarify individual framework conditions and identify specific fields of activity.

Around 100 people from Ukraine have taken part in the programme so far. The feedback so far has been consistently positive. The Ukrainians not only appreciate the help and relief after traumatic events, but also the new perspectives and information they have gained for their professional future. The feedback and success stories confirm Dr Ulrike Zawar, Head of the Labour, Social Affairs and Health Division, and Dietmar Schönberger, Head of the Job Centre, in their approach and also see this as motivation for the Job Centre team.

At the beginning of May, District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo took the opportunity to visit the project. "The Saarpfalz district offers many interesting jobs and prospects. Come to us and take your chance. We will be happy to provide you with the best possible support," encouraged the District Administrator, and he engaged in lively dialogue with the group, who ultimately spontaneously accepted his invitation to his office. There, Dr Gallo also provided information about the Saarpfalz district's diverse European relations and activities and its particularly close partnership with Ukraine.
