The District Youth Welfare Office has two so-called procedure pilots for the counselling service for children, adolescents and young adults with a (potential) physical, mental, psychological or sensory disability and their families.
Families with a child or young person with a disability often face many challenges. Finding and applying for the right help is usually difficult. The Child and Youth Strengthening Act has set the course for inclusive child and youth welfare. The aim of the law is to bring integration assistance for all children with disabilities under one umbrella of child and youth welfare from 2028 (inclusive solution). The process pilots anchored in SGB VIII as of 1 January 2024 will support this long-term process and pave the way for a far-reaching inclusive solution.
The procedure guides advise, accompany and support young people with (potential) disabilities and their families in realising the benefits to which they are entitled. The counselling is independent, neutral and free of charge. Procedural guides only become active at the request of those entitled to benefits and can be called upon at any stage of the procedure, whether before, during or after a benefit has been approved/rejected. They also support youth welfare services in becoming inclusive and in developing customised services and assistance for the target group.
The procedure guides provide contacts and offers for the target group, help in the area of cooperation with other institutions and know the participation networks and support offers in the Saarpfalz district. On request, they accompany young people to appointments and planning procedures and work to ensure that their individual participation and support needs are met. In doing so, they are guided by the wishes of the young people and their families and help to find customised support for the respective life situation.
"The social benefits system is quite complex and it is not necessarily easy to find your way around it. I am glad that we now have reliable contact persons in our youth welfare office who are trained and qualified in the work of the procedure guides and that the Saarpfalz district can thus comply with the requirements of the Child and Youth Strengthening Act," explains District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo.
The procedure guides provide advice in the Homburg Youth Welfare Office building, Talstraße 57b, 66424 Homburg, in the Saarpfalz district offices, e.g. in the family support centres, at home or also in joint discussions with trusted persons or in institutions.
