Heavy continuous rain into Saturday night, especially in the areas west of the Rhine, with amounts of

between 30 and 50 litres per square metre, in some areas up to 70 litres per square metre (UNWETTER) in 12 to 24 hours.

Overcast and slowly decreasing rain during the night to Saturday.

Drainage position: 

As a result of the precipitation that has fallen and is still forecast for today, Friday, the

water levels at the gauges in the Saar catchment area rise very sharply.

On the tributaries of the Saar (Blies, Nied, Prims), the water level will reach or just exceed the reporting level 3 in the course of the afternoon or evening. After that, the water levels will drop significantly again according to the current water level forecasts from 9:00 am.

The high water levels on the lower Blies will stagnate until Sunday and then fall.

The Saar itself is expected to reach level 3 during the night.

Possible maximum water levels are expected or will be exceeded in the next 24 hours:

  • Prims with tributaries: Prims reporting level 1, tributaries reporting level 3
  • Upper Blies: Reporting level 3
  • Lower Blies: Reporting level 3
  • Low: Reporting level 2
  • Saar: Reporting level 3

There is currently a high risk of flooding (≥ 20 annual flood event).
Possible impacts:

Flooding of built-up properties, buildings and cellars/underground car parks
Closure of local traffic obstructions

Flooding of agricultural and forestry land
