The designated district administrator of the Saarpfalz district is Frank John. This was the provisional result of the run-off election on 23 June. Frank John (SPD) from Kirkel received 26,378 votes (60.63 per cent) and Klaus-Ludwig Fess (CDU) from Bexbach 17,125 votes (39.37 per cent). Voter turnout in the Saarpfalz district was 38.63 per cent.
District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo congratulated the mayor of Kirkel on the evening of the election at the district administration office, where the presentation of the results could be followed on the screen in the large conference room.
"A long election campaign has come to an end with a clear success for the candidate Frank John, which I am of course very pleased about because I will have a successor who is well prepared thanks to his CV. However, respect and recognition are also due to my competitor Klaus-Ludwig Fess, who also ran a fair election campaign and achieved a considerable number of votes. The low voter turnout in the run-off election is regrettable, but the democratic legitimisation of this election is also based on it. The job as District Administrator and thus as a trustee for the citizens of our region is demanding and challenging. Frank John brings many years of local political experience to his future field of activity. I wish him a lot of strength and always a lucky hand in coping with the tasks assigned to him and also in fulfilling the most diverse expectations, both in safeguarding municipal interests in the district and in the indispensable cultivation of international relations, because the Saarpfalz district is very well positioned not only historically, but now also in terms of Europe and cosmopolitanism," said District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo.
Minister President Anke Rehlinger also took the opportunity to congratulate Frank John in person that evening.
