City cycling 24: employees of the district administration cycle many kilometres

City cycling is now a traditional event in Saarland and the Saarpfalz district. In addition to a large number of private individuals, more and more companies and administrations are also getting involved in city cycling and motivating their employees to switch to bikes for the sake of health and the environment.

The district administration has also been actively involved for many years, cycling numerous kilometres on everyday and leisure routes.

This year, almost 30 cyclists are active in the LandRADsamt team, who collected over 5500 kilometres in the three-week city cycling period.

District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo is delighted with the commitment of the workforce: "The bicycle is not only an environmentally friendly means of transport, but also one that promotes good health. People who cycle in their everyday life and leisure time keep fit and prevent a variety of illnesses. Cycling therefore offers advantages for all sides. It protects the environment, promotes health and provides a morning energy boost on the way to work. This is why we at the district administration support our employees in using bicycles. For several years now, we have had a well-used bicycle car park in the district administration's underground car park and we are currently in the process of introducing 'company bike leasing'."

Following this year's city cycling event, District Administrator Dr Gallo therefore honoured the most hard-working cyclists from the district administration.

The Sustainable Development and Mobility Unit, which is also committed to promoting cycling in the district outside of the city cycling programme, was right at the front of the pack. Head of staff unit Torsten Czech, who collected the most kilometres of the district administration staff this year, is pleased about the growing competition from the other departments: "It's great that we were able to win over fellow campaigners from the most diverse departments in the district administration for the campaign. It shows that we have an extremely active workforce and that many colleagues often enjoy cycling both privately and for work."
