From the new school year, the Saarpfalz District Adult Education Centre will be offering Polish lessons for children and young people in grades 1 to 7 with Polish roots. Pupils of all levels are welcome.
The course takes place online under the guidance of experienced lecturer Dr Agnieszka Will. She holds a doctorate in translation studies and works freelance for the media, universities and companies. She also has experience as a Polish lecturer and has developed her own teaching materials for teaching children the language of origin.
The course is expected to start in the first week of the new school year and will end at the end of 2024. An extension may be possible. Depending on interest, the course is scheduled for Tuesdays from 4.30 pm and/or Saturdays from 10 am. Interested parties should indicate which date they can attend.
District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo: "I am delighted that we are able to offer this language course to young people in the Saarpfalz district through our district adult education centre. It gives them the wonderful opportunity to engage more intensively with their roots, to understand another culture and to get closer to the country of Poland and its people. The encounters with our Polish partner districts show time and again how enriching the mutual exchange is. Of course, it is helpful if you understand or speak a few words of the other country's language. However, this is not a prerequisite for friendships to develop. Learning a language is always an enrichment for personal development. With this offer, we in the district are once again emphasising that we are European and cosmopolitan. And in Poland itself, the German language is part of the standard curriculum in many schools."
The offer of Polish heritage language lessons is funded by the Polish Competence and Coordination Centre (Kokopol) and is free of charge for pupils.
