Theatre is the focus of the banquet hosted by the Siebenpfeiffer Foundation on Sunday, 28 January at 4.30 pm in the Parliamentary Wing of the Homburg Forum. "Unity and Justice and Freedom - The Revolution of 1848/49" is the title of the play, which will be staged by actor Tino Leo from Mainz. The March Revolution, the National Assembly in St Paul's Church in Frankfurt and the Palatinate Revolution 175 years ago now form the chronological framework of the performance, in which Tino Leo slips into ten different roles. The event is traditionally combined with a communal meal, which is on the programme after the performance of the play, which lasts around three quarters of an hour. The banquet takes place every year, alternating between Homburg and Zweibrücken, and is modelled on the meeting at which the "Preß- und Vaterlandsverein" was founded in Zweibrücken-Bubenhausen on 29 January 1832. More than 350 visitors came together on the initiative of Wirth and Siebenpfeiffer. Most of them were merchants and craftsmen, lawyers and journalists, who joined in demanding a free press. The Hambach Festival, the largest demonstration in favour of freedom and democracy in Germany in the 19th century, took place four months later on the initiative of the "Preßverein".
Tickets for the Siebenpfeiffer Foundation banquet are available for 30 euros (including food) from the Siebenpfeiffer Foundation office at Homburg District Office, Am Forum 1, Tel. (06841) 104-8153 (from 8 a.m. to 12 noon), e-mail [email protected].
