Since 2016, the Saarpfalz district has been involved in the federal "Live Democracy!" programme of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. As part of the Saarpfalz district's "Partnership for Democracy", funds will most likely also be available in the 2024 funding year to promote engagement, carry out prevention and awareness-raising work and establish sustainable structures for dealing with tendencies that jeopardise democracy.
At the centre of the partnership is the productive and sustainable cooperation of stakeholders in the district.
Subject to the final allocation of funds by the federal government, funds are once again available for project funding in 2024. Non-profit organisations that would like to implement projects with citizens from the Saarpfalz district to promote democracy, prevent extremism, intercultural encounters, etc. are eligible to apply. The coordination and specialist centre at the Adolf Bender Centre in St. Wendel is available to advise and support interested parties during project implementation.
"In recent years, the Partnership for Democracy has created a good network of stakeholders that strengthens democracy education, youth participation and education for sustainable development in the district. In this way, the actors provide valuable impetus for current events and future topics," says District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo, inviting people to get involved.
A monitoring committee, the majority of whose members are representatives of civil society, decides on the applications. Project applications can be submitted from now until 16 February. The necessary documents can be requested from the lead office or the coordination and specialist centre.
All citizens of the Saarpfalz district are cordially invited to get involved in the "Partnership for Democracy", to express their ideas, to undergo further training and to constructively and critically support the further development of the project.
