At the last district council meeting of the past year, District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo appointed Sascha Schoepe as a specialist advisor for chemical hazards in the fire and disaster control department of the Saarpfalz district. Sascha Schoepe is a member of the Bexbach fire brigade, Oberbexbach fire-fighting district.
The firefighter, who is currently studying chemistry, will be involved in fire and disaster prevention training. He will also provide technical advice and support for emergency response measures. In particular, he will act as an expert advisor to the heads of the fire brigades or, in the event of an emergency, to the incident commander. The District Administrator thanked Sascha Schoepe for taking on this honorary position. "We rely on the expertise of people who enjoy training and passing on their knowledge. With this expert knowledge, they protect lives, because accidents involving chemicals occur time and again, such as fires, industrial accidents or hazardous goods transport accidents, to name just a few examples. It certainly takes an attitude orientated towards the common good to take on tasks like these. For this, Sascha Schoepe deserves my respect and recognition as District Administrator and, of course, on behalf of the Saarpfalz district. In him, we have been able to recruit a very committed and professionally qualified specialist representative for our tasks as a district. This means that a total of four people have now been appointed for the area of chemical hazards in the Saarpfalz district to ensure permanent operational readiness.
"The Saarpfalz district is very well positioned in the area of civil defence and disaster control, even if unsubstantiated claims to the contrary are sometimes made. On the one hand, this is based on the excellent cooperation between the aid organisations involved, including the fire brigades, and on the other hand on the outstanding qualifications and commitment of individuals such as Mr Schoepe. The fact that civil defence and disaster control in the Saarpfalz district is very well organised is currently confirmed by a nationwide study on the subject, which was published in book form last year. The author, Peter Erlhofer, confirms that the Saarpfalz-Kreis is a district that is way ahead of the rest. There is nothing to add to this," says District Administrator Dr Gallo on the topic, which is currently becoming increasingly important.
