Finding out what moves young people

On the occasion of his visit to the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule Blieskastel for "Landrat macht Schule", District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo was warmly welcomed by Headmaster Sascha Matheis, Head of Didactics Mathias Glahn and 40 pupils from Years 10a and 10b. After the personal introduction of the district administrator, the course of the lesson, which was rather unusual for the pupils, once again took on a momentum of its own, characterised by interested questions from the young participants. For example, they were interested in how the district administrator felt about the AfD, whether it was possible to do an internship with the district or what the district administrator thought about lobbying in politics, and much more. "This event remains an integral part of my work, even if it is not one of my typical compulsory tasks, because through this exchange, the pupils get to know me and the tasks of the district as a school authority better. Conversely, I like to take the opportunity to find out what moves the young people both inside and outside the classroom," says the district administrator. "It is a self-imposed duty that I am happy to fulfil out of my responsibility towards young people." In any case, career prospects were also discussed, which were finally presented by Maren Kanzlirsch, Human Resources Department, and Julia Serov, Saarpfalz-Touristik, for the district administration and Saarpfalz-Touristik in the presence of the year 9 graduating class. Meanwhile, District Administrator Dr Gallo accepted the invitation of four pupils to visit the specially created technology and climate room. In the compulsory elective subject Technology and Climate (TuK), the school combines expertise from the fields of computer science, technology and environmental protection. The pupils, who come from Germany, Syria and Afghanistan, mainly work on innovative ideas from the STEM field in this so-called creative workshop. They have access to 3D printers, a complete workshop trolley, a laser cutter, a CNC milling machine, presentation media and a green screen for video productions, all of which impressed the District Administrator. The exchange of ideas about the participants' career aspirations had the same effect. "A great event and an absolutely positive experience, which I would wish for many people in our country who indulge in the German language," said the District Administrator. District Administrator Dr Gallo invited the group to the Siebenpfeiffer Foundation's banquet two days later, where their brief appearance was a highlight of the event.
