Senior safety counselling - a strong volunteer service

The last meeting of the Saarpfalz district's senior safety advisors for this year took place at the end of November in the Homburg Forum. The safety advisors work on a voluntary basis to promote the safety of older people in the Saarpfalz district and are an important link between the police, local authorities and citizens. In addition to the volunteers, District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo also welcomed Police Chief Inspector Gernot Scheller, Deputy Head of the Homburg Police Inspectorate (PI), and Patrick Rubeck from the State Office of Criminal Investigation to this regular exchange.

The topic of security often takes on a profound significance for older people in particular, as the need for security generally increases with age. Last but not least, they are particularly at risk from property offences or dubious business practices. Through newspaper articles in local newspapers, lectures and even participation in the Police Day in Kirkel, the senior citizens' safety advisors carry out valuable educational work on these topics.

"Through continuous training, the counsellors are up to date and informed about the latest tricks and scams used by criminals. They act as multipliers, passing on their knowledge to senior citizens, who they are more likely to reach than the police. That is why we cannot do without the work of the senior citizens' safety advice service, for which I would like to express my sincere thanks," emphasised District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo. As a thank you for their work, the District Administrator presented those present with shirts bearing the district logo "European and cosmopolitan" and the lettering of their function, so that they are easily recognisable in public.
