Be mindful with digital media

District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo visited classes 10a and 10b at the Neue Sandrennbahn community school as part of "Landrat macht Schule". The school community was looking forward to the long-planned appointment. The district administrator was warmly welcomed in the school canteen by the 40 pupils, the headmaster Thorsten Podevin, his deputy Peter Schröer, the class teacher Britta Baschab-Krupp and Edith Köhne, teacher for social sciences. The young people's concern about a possible world war was evident from the question and answer session. "Unfortunately, there are always conflicts in the world, but I don't think one on this scale is possible, so I'm very confident," said the district administrator. One pupil even compared the current political developments in Germany with those before 1939. Digitalisation was also a topic for discussion, along with a number of other issues. "Digital media should not stop us from thinking for ourselves. They are tools, but they are no substitute for our own creativity and intelligence. I can only advise people to be careful with them and to question what is posted digitally and on social networks," said the District Administrator during the one-and-a-half-hour exchange. At the end of the entertaining school lessons, the District Administrator suggested that a group of pupils from the Neue Sandrennbahn should take part in the next Siebenpfeiffer banquet in January 2025, for example to talk about career ideas or other concerns. In addition, the exhibition "75 Years of the Council of Europe", which is currently on display at the district administration office, will be on show at the Neue Sandrennbahn next year. The exhibition provides information about the Council of Europe's work to protect human rights and support democracy and the rule of law in its 46 member states. Visitors can also find out more about the structure and achievements of the organisation. District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo would be delighted if other schools were also interested in the loan.
