Welcome to professional life

1 August marks a new beginning in the world of work and so the new trainees at the Saarpfalz district administration started their careers on this day with a welcome event.

Esra Limbacher described it as an honour to be able to welcome the trainees as the recently elected district councillor representing District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo. "An important stage in your lives has begun and I am delighted that you have decided in favour of a professional future with the district administration following a selection process." Limbacher emphasised the importance of the civil service: "A functioning public administration that is bound by law and order is one of the cornerstones of our democratic constitutional state. The citizens of the Saarpfalz district trust us to act in their service and to be there for them. This is naturally a great responsibility that we must all fulfil. I wish you every success in your professional careers, but above all I hope you enjoy your work - we are very pleased that you will be supporting the Saarpfalz district in the future," said Esra Limbacher, welcoming the group. These words were echoed by Andreas Motsch, Head of Central Management, Security and Order, and Christian Janishek, Head of Human Resources, Internal Services and Head of Training.

Eva-Maria Jager, Celine Michelle Klein and Luca Müller have started training as administrative assistants, Nicholas Lambert wants to become an IT specialist for system integration and Paula Jacob sees herself in the right place as a trainee in tourism and leisure in the tourism industry.

Lea Johanna Jochem and Felix Reis completed the panel as future trainee civil servants.

While the morning was predominantly theory-heavy with tangible information about the district and the administrative structure, things got moving after the lunch break. The programme included a digital rally using an app, which sent the newcomers to the administration on an exploratory tour of the district administration together with the experienced members of the youth and trainee representatives, Vivien Panitz and Carina Degel. Oliver Mörsdorf, a second-year IT specialist trainee for system integration, was also happy to answer questions from the junior staff, particularly those relating to IT.

The route, which took around two hours, led to various departments and their representatives in the district office building as well as to several branch offices in Homburg, such as the Youth Welfare Office, the Women's Office, the Sustainable Development/Mobility Unit and the Job Centre. The next stop was only indicated if questions were answered correctly in the app.

Training officer Maren Kanzlirsch from the Human Resources, Internal Services department, who was responsible for organising the day, was pleased with how it went: "This makes it easier for us all to get to know each other and the newcomers also come into contact with other employees and departments. That can only be an advantage."

District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo, who had to excuse himself for the day, is looking forward to meeting the new trainees in the future and knows: "Our European and cosmopolitan district administration offers exciting, varied jobs that leave room for professional orientation and further training. I am delighted when young people see this opportunity and make use of it. And it's true: we need well-trained specialists who identify with our region and are personally committed to helping shape the administration for the future."
