AQuiS GmbH's "Milestone" project was once again involved in this year's "Spring cleaning for the environment" as part of the "Saarland picobello" waste collection campaign organised by the Saar Waste Disposal Association (EVS).
The teenagers and young adults went on a foray, so to speak, together with the educational staff and under professional guidance. Equipped with gloves, bin bags and tongs, they actively collected litter with the aim of making Beeder Strasse, where the 'Meilenstein' project site is located, spotlessly clean again.
A total of eleven rubbish bags were filled with all kinds of rubbish. The largest items collected from the pavement and open spaces were car tyres, hubcaps and posters. The hard-working collectors also found numerous items of packaging ranging from drinks and food to fast food and sweets. As in previous years, countless cigarette butts also found their way into the rubbish bags.
District Administrator Dr Gallo commented: "With the best will in the world, I cannot imagine whether and what is going on in the minds of those who litter our environment with complete abandon and as a matter of course, and who possibly also firmly believe that others are responsible for disposing of their waste. Unfortunately, I am also disillusioned about the fact that we could persuade the people who are responsible to rethink their behaviour. It is more than regrettable that we have to rely on "Saarland picobello" campaigns to draw attention to the issue of careless littering and make some places look attractive again. Given the extent of this nastiness, the campaign should take place all year round. I therefore have great respect for the many volunteers who take the time and energy to iron out the misbehaviour of others for the good of our environment. I would like to thank the participants in the 'Milestone' project for their initiative and commitment to this year's picobello campaign."
The "Meilenstein-AQuiS" youth activation measure project is funded by the Saarland Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Women and Health and the European Social Fund Plus as part of the "Investments in Employment and Growth" programme. The cooperation partner is the Saarpfalz-Kreis job centre.
