With naturalisation into German and European constitutional law, naturalised citizens enter into rights and obligations by accepting German citizenship. On 9 June, many will have the right to vote in free elections for the first time and decide on the composition of local and municipal councils, the district council and the European Parliament. The Saarpfalz district will also be electing a mayor and district administrator. In a workshop, Philipp König from the Junior Research Centre for Europe at Saarland University will explain the importance of these bodies and the principles of democratic co-determination. He provides neutral information about the historical and political background of parties and which parties are up for election. Some people with a history of migration in politics and their share in the parties are presented. The Wahl-O-Mat of the Federal Agency for Civic Education is used as an example.
The free workshop is divided into three parts. The venue on Saturday 27 April is the Kreisvolkshochschule in Blieskastel, Am Schloss 11. Further information on the duration and content of the event and registration: Tel. 06842 9243-10 or by email at [email protected].
