District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo received Colonel Uwe Staab, Commander of the Saarland State Command, on his inaugural visit to the District Office in Homburg. Since the end of September 2023, Staab, who was born in Saarland, has headed the state command as the successor to Colonel Matthias Reibold, who retired. During the meeting, topics of mutual interest were discussed, including the Bundeswehr's assistance options and the involvement of the District Liaison Command (KVK) in civil emergency planning, as well as the general security situation.
District Administrator Dr Theophil Gallo, himself a reserve officer and member of the KVK, once again praised the support provided by the KVK to the Saarpfalz district's disaster control team in the fight against the pandemic. "The close and trusting cooperation between the Bundeswehr and the Saarpfalz district was particularly evident during the coronavirus pandemic. It has to be said that it was indispensable and extremely helpful. I am sure that the good connections can also be continued and strengthened under the leadership of Colonel Staab, not least in the common interest of safety and for the well-being of the citizens of the Saarpfalz district."
The State Command, which was put into service in Saarlouis on 2 March 2007, acts as the "Embassy of the Bundeswehr in Saarland" and serves as a round-the-clock point of contact for the state government for all military matters. This role includes, in particular, civil-military co-operation (ZMZ).
Colonel Uwe Staab thanked the District Administrator for the warm welcome and emphasised the importance of the reliable working relationship between the military and the civilian authorities at district level.
