County council
The district council is the representative body of the Saarpfalz district. It is elected by the residents of the district who are entitled to vote in general, direct, free, equal and secret elections for a period of five years. The district council of the Saarpfalz district has 33 members.
The district council decides on all self-governing matters of the district, in particular it determines the budget statutes, adopts the budget plan, issues bylaws to regulate municipal matters and decides on the recruitment of staff as well as on the development and implementation of measures and projects.
The meetings of the district council are generally open to the public. The district administrator chairs the meeting. However, he is not entitled to vote.
To prepare its resolutions, the district council forms district council committees in accordance with the statutory provisions of the Local Self-Government Act (KSVG).
