The organisation's own research focuses on the regional and local history of the Saarpfalz. An important publication is the quarterly journal "Saarpfalz. Blätter für Geschichte und Volkskunde", which has been published since 1983. A special issue on a specific topic is published every year.
With the editing and publication of the "Saarpfalz Yearbook", a broad thematic spectrum is offered. Other publications (photo books, reading books, etc.) are also issued.
In order to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of Karlsberg Castle and its extensive park near Homburg (Saar), the Saarland Ministry of the Environment, SaarForst, the city of Homburg and the Saarpfalz district joined forces in 2008 to form a co-operation. The aim is to preserve architectural relics, maintain park elements, make the castle and park a tangible experience and to develop and promote all of this for tourism: "A landscape is being created - ... also in people's minds".
In WaldPark Schloss Karlsberg - "lost in the middle of a magnificent forest" - ruins, park relics and nature form a high-calibre world of experience and an imaginary cosmos. Together with the neighbouring state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Karlsberg Hof Foundation, the Karlsberg pond, orangery, stilling basin, swan pond, hermitage, cascades and ducal gardens have been preserved and re-visualised: Historical forms are imitated with Corten steel, which symbolises age and decay with its iridescent rust patina. The measures on the Saar Palatinate side were subsidised by the Saarland Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Interior.
The Saarpfalz district supports local authorities, associations and private individuals in the restoration of historic wayside crosses and other small stone monuments in public spaces. A written application is required in order to receive funding up to a maximum of €1,500. The costs for the renovation must first be paid 100% in advance by the applicant. The agreed funding can then be claimed by the Saarpfalz district with a proof of utilisation.
Before contacting the Saarpfalz district regarding a corresponding renovation, please first check whether the property is a listed building. If this is the case, you must first contact the State Monument Office.
The cultural management of the Saarpfalz district and its team, consisting of historians, archaeologists and art historians, offers municipalities, local councils and historical associations that would like to publish a town or village chronicle support in the creation of local chronicles. Advice can be given on the thematic structure and research work. Depending on the subject area, there is also the possibility that individual chapters can be contributed by the cultural management.
